An Inclusive World Transformed by

God’s Love

Our mission to serve the world has remained constant since 1960! St Philip Lutheran Church (ELCA) welcomes all residents of the Downriver area regardless of age, gender, background, or orientation! (RIC) Our services offer a kid-friendly, blended style that includes liturgical traditions and modern elements. We offer Bible studies, Sunday School, confirmation classes, VBS and many other events focused on Christian education.

What is the ELCA?

The Southeast Michigan Synod of the ELCA is one people created by God, redeemed by Christ, and sustained by the Holy Spirit. We are a diverse part of a changing global community called to witness and serve in response to God’s love.

Our Pastor:

Jeff Ogonowski

Pastor Jeff grew up in St. Joseph MI and studied at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus OH. "My faith was shaped by pursuing deeper and deeper understanding of Scripture. I have never been satisfied by people who claim to get it; there is always more to explore, discuss, maybe even debate a bit... The middle schooler seems to understand better than any other age group how to challenge authority through discussion and dialogue and perhaps a bit of sarcasm. May we all think like 12 year olds, you know, occasionally."

Our Ministries

St Philip Preschool

Our licensed preschool for 3 & 4 year olds enjoys a wonderful reputation in our community. We are currently open for enrollment for both half and full days.

Perennial Waters

The Perennial Waters Project is part of our church community’s response to God’s command to care for our earth. It is a community-led group cultivating mindful partnerships for sustained ecological activism.

Family Events

We understand that fellowship and FUN are important to the growth and health of a church, so we plan many family oriented events every month to encourage building relationships within our community

LGBTQIA+
